Getting started

MatchPoint is a volleyball scoring and live-streaming app for teams, families, and fans. Scorekeepers record points in real time, and teams can broadcast games live to YouTube.

  • Create an account with Google or email/password. You'll be asked to agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
  • Your home page shows the teams you're a member of, upcoming games, and live games.
  • To join a team, you need an invite link from a coach or staff member — or find a team with Search and tap Follow This Team to request access.
  • To create your own team, tap the Create Team card on the home page. You become the team's Owner.

Teams & roles

Creating a team

  1. On the home page, tap the Create Team card (plus icon).
  2. Enter the Team Name (the only required field). Optionally set the default sets, points per set, club, division, city, state, coach, season, team color, and logo.
  3. Tap Create. You become the team's Owner and the team appears on your home page right away.

Team roles

Everyone on a team has one of five roles, from most to least powerful:

  • Owner — full control: team settings, roster, members, approve requests, archive the team. Always sees stats.
  • Staff — manage members and settings, schedule games, score games, approve follow requests and player claims. Always sees stats.
  • Game Crew — score games and run streams. Can use team chat. Sees stats only if the owner turns them on.
  • Immediate Family — can use team chat. Sees stats only if the owner turns them on.
  • Fans & Extended Family — view-only: schedules, scores, highlights. No chat. Sees stats only if the owner turns them on.

The owner controls stat visibility for Crew, Immediate Family, and Fans in Team Edit → Stats Visibility. People who aren't members can still view a team's schedule and roster (read-only).

Inviting members

  1. Open your team page → Members tab.
  2. Pick a role: Fan, Immediate Family, or Game Crew.
  3. Tap Create Invite Link, then copy or email the link. Generate one link per person — links expire after 30 days.

Staff and Owner roles can't be granted by invite link — an existing Owner or Staff member assigns those directly in the Members tab.

Players & profiles

Adding players to a roster

On the team page → Players tab (Owners and Staff), you can add roster slots two ways:

  • Manual: enter the jersey # and Player Name, tap Add.
  • Import: tap Import roster from prior team, pick a team, and check the players to copy over.

Roster slots are just a name and number until someone claims them and links a player profile.

Player profiles

A player profile is one page per athlete that follows them across teams and seasons — photo, positions, grad year, height, school, bio, game history, and video highlights.

Claiming a player

  1. On the team page → Players tab, find the roster slot and tap Claim (green button).
  2. Pick who you are: Player ("I am this player") or Parent/Guardian ("I am this player's parent/guardian").
  3. Confirm, and link to an existing profile you manage or create a new one.
  4. You'll see "Claim submitted — Your team owner will review it."

When the Owner or Staff approves the claim (in Members tab → Player Claims), you become a manager of the profile, the roster slot links to it, and all of the team's past games are automatically tagged with the player — so their highlights appear on the profile immediately.

If a slot was linked to the wrong profile, Staff can Unlink it (keeps the name/number on the roster, removes the profile link and game tags).

Following a team

Following a team adds you as a member so you see its games, scores, and highlights on your home page.

Two ways to follow

  • Invite link — open the link a coach sent you, sign in, optionally pick players to follow, tap Accept Invite. You're in immediately.
  • Request to Follow — find a team with Search, open its page, and tap Follow This Team. Pick Fan or Immediate Family, optionally check players you're following, and tap Request to Follow. The team's Owner or Staff reviews it in Members tab → Pending Requests.

Scheduling games & practices

Scheduling requires Owner or Staff role on the team.

Scheduling a game

  1. Tap + Schedule in the top nav (or the + tab on mobile) → stay on the Game tab.
  2. Pick your Team, enter the Opponent (required), Date (required), and Time (or check "All-day / time TBD").
  3. Sets, Win by, and Final set come pre-filled from your team's defaults — adjust if needed.
  4. Optionally add a Location and Tournament name.
  5. Tap Save. The game appears on the team's Schedule tab and the calendar.

To score it later, open the scheduled game and tap Score.

Scheduling a practice

  1. Tap + Schedule → switch to the Practice tab.
  2. Pick your Team, Date, Start and End times.
  3. Optionally add a Location, Notes, and a Repeat pattern (weekly or every 2 weeks, with a "Repeat until" date).
  4. Tap Save.

Importing a season: in Team Edit → Tools you can import games and practices from one CSV file (columns: type, opponent, title, date, time, end_time, location, notes).

Scoring a game

Starting

  1. Open a scheduled game and tap Score. (You must be Game Crew or higher on one of the teams.)
  2. Check the teams, sets, and points — tap a team name to rename it, or use the swap-arrows button to switch sides.
  3. Tap the green Start Game button. The score buttons activate.

Tip: start your phone's camera recording too, as an offline backup in case of signal loss.

Scoring points

Each team has a big +1 button in its team color. Tap it to award a point — the score updates, the SERVING indicator moves to that team, and the point is logged with a timestamp. Every point syncs live, so fans watching the scoreboard see it instantly.

Sets end automatically when a team reaches the target score with a 2-point lead. Scores reset for the next set, and the match ends when a team wins the required number of sets.

Tagging highlights & stats

These buttons record stats for your own team and tag video highlights:

  • Kill +1 — awards a point and tags a kill. You'll pick the player, then optionally tag the assist.
  • Block +1 — awards a point and tags a block.
  • Ace +1 — awards a point and tags an ace (serve).
  • Dig — tags a dig. No point awarded.
  • Clip — marks a highlight timestamp with no stat or point.

Each tag opens the player picker (both teams' rosters by jersey number). Tap a player, Skip Player Tag, or Cancel.

Other controls

  • Undo (yellow) — reverses the last action.
  • Edit — manual score correction (+/- steppers), swap teams mid-game, or Transfer Scoring to hand off to another device.
  • Switch serve (circular arrows) — flips the serving team without awarding a point.
  • End Game (red) — ends the game early (you'll be asked to confirm).

Finishing

When the match ends, the game is archived to permanent history — scores, set results, the full event log, player tags, and the linked YouTube video. A Game Over screen shows the final result. If you're offline, the app keeps retrying the upload automatically — stay on the page until it says "Game saved."

Connecting YouTube & streaming

Connecting your YouTube channel

  1. Open Settings (gear icon) → Stream tab.
  2. Tap the red Connect YouTube button.
  3. Pick the Google account that owns the YouTube channel you want to stream to.
  4. Google asks for permission for MatchPoint to manage your YouTube account — this lets the app create live broadcasts on your channel. Tap Allow.
  5. You're sent back to Settings → Stream, now showing your channel name as Connected.

Before game day: in YouTube Studio, verify your phone number (Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility), make sure you have no Community Guidelines strikes in the last 90 days, and enable live streaming (Create → Go live). First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours.

Linking a channel to a team

  1. Open the team page → Edit → Stream tab (Owners and Staff only).
  2. If your YouTube is connected, tap Use My YouTube Account to link your channel to the team. Only your connected account is ever offered.
  3. To remove it later, tap Unlink from Team. Your personal YouTube connection is unaffected.

One YouTube account can be linked to as many teams as you own or staff.

Going live

  1. On the home page, find your game card and tap Go Live (red record-dot icon).
  2. Check the camera preview, then tap the big red Go live button.
  3. The app creates a fresh YouTube broadcast on the team's linked channel and starts streaming. The game card swaps to a blue Live watch link.
  4. When the game is over, tap End stream.

The stream shows your camera feed with a live scoreboard on top — team logos, names, scores, sets won, and a serving indicator, plus highlight callouts when the scorer tags big plays.

Disconnecting YouTube

In Settings → Stream, tap Disconnect. This is a kill switch: it deletes your YouTube tokens and removes your channel from every team using it. Those teams can't stream to your channel again until someone reconnects and re-links.

Highlights & video

  • Tagging: during scoring, the Kill/Block/Ace/Dig/Clip buttons tag highlights with a timestamp in the video.
  • Attaching video: after a game is archived, open the game and use Add Video to link its YouTube video. Highlights need a video to play.
  • Watching: on a player profile's Highlights tab, each game card shows a count and a ⏯ Play All button (when 2+ clips have video). Expand a card to play individual clips.
  • "No video was recorded for this game" means highlights were tagged but no YouTube video was ever attached — attach one with Add Video.

Notifications

  1. Open Settings → Notifications tab.
  2. Flip the master Push notifications toggle on. Your browser will ask permission — tap Allow.
  3. All six types turn on. Turn off any you don't want:
  • New chat messages — someone posts in a team chat.
  • Practice added — a practice is added to a team's schedule.
  • Game added — a game is added to a team's schedule.
  • Game starting soon — the scorer taps "Score game" (warmup).
  • Final score posted — a game is archived.
  • Approval requests — follow requests and player claims (owners/staff only).

Notes: each device is opted in separately — enable on your phone, not just your PC. On iPhone, web push only works if MatchPoint is installed to the home screen. Turning the master toggle off silences everything but keeps your per-type choices.

Team chat

  • Team chat is on each team's page → Chat tab.
  • Immediate Family and up can post. Fans & Extended Family can't chat.
  • The home page shows the latest message per team so you can see activity at a glance.

FAQ

I signed up but don't see any teams. What now?

Ask your coach for an invite link, or use Search to find the team and tap Follow This Team to request access.

How do I know if someone wants to follow my team or claimed a player?

Owners and Staff get a push notification (Approval requests type) and can review in the team page → Members tab (Pending Requests and Player Claims sections).

Can I score a game for a team I'm not on?

No — you must be Game Crew or higher on one of the two teams.

The scorer says "No game loaded." What do I do?

Schedule the game first (see Scheduling above), then open it and tap Score.

My highlights say "No video was recorded for this game."

The game was scored but no YouTube video was attached. Open the archived game and use Add Video to link it.

I'm not getting push notifications.

Check: Settings → Notifications → master toggle is on, your browser allowed notifications, and the per-type toggle is on. Each device is separate — enabling on your PC doesn't enable your phone. On iPhone, install MatchPoint to the home screen first.

Can I delete my account?

Yes — contact support@matchpointlive.com. Note: you can't delete your account while you're the sole owner of a team or the sole manager of a player profile — transfer those first.

Who do I contact for help?

Email support@matchpointlive.com.
